Dosbarth 1 went on a Welly Walk around Gladestry. The learners took photographs, drew pictures and collected some objects that were made of either natural or man-made materials. Some examples of what they found were stone walls, a metal post box and a wooden table. Back at School, the learners printed and sorted their photographs into a Venn diagram. We had some interesting discussions about a selection of objects that were made of both natural and man-made materials. Da iawn pawb!
Dosbarth 1 and 2 had a lovely afternoon at Gladestry Church spending time in our very beautiful church yard. The Eco committee planned lots of activities for us which involved a scavenger hunt, drawing and painting pictures and identifying different types of trees. We spent the morning preparing some healthy fruit kebabs and decorating biscuits so that we could enjoy a picnic at the Church too. We found out lots of new things about our church yard and were able to appreciate just how special it is. Da iawn pawb!
Dosbarth 1 had great fun in Health and Wellbeing yesterday! After our journey from Gladestry to Brecon for our topic, we thought that we would see if we could cross the River Usk. We had to ask the question ‘Ga i groeso’r afon?’ and we could only cross if we were wearing certain colours. Da iawn pawb for remembering the colours in Welsh!
All of the pupils at Gladestry had a great week last week in preparation for the King’s coronation. They designed their own coronation bunting to decorate the classroom for our celebration, created finger painted British flags to wave and even drew some beautiful portraits of King Charles to display on our windows! We then invited our adults in to celebrate with us on Friday where we enjoyed tea and cakes and sang our coronation songs. Bendigedig Dosbarth 1 and 2!
Dosbarth 1 have enjoyed starting their new topic ‘journeys’ this term. To start our topic, we have been learning about the difference between human and physical features. We went for a welly walk around Gladestry to see what features we could spot. The children recognised lots of different features and took some great photographs. We have worked really hard to sort our photographs and we have now started to compare our local area to Brecon as a much bigger town. Da iawn, Dosbarth 1!
On Wednesday, Class 1 brought in their own favourite books to share with the rest of the children in school. We found out lots of new exciting facts and read some new stories too! We were very lucky to engage in a live session with Julia Donalson and Axel Scheffler and we had a go at drawing some of the characters from their books. We designed our own monster as the gruffalo had decided to retire!
To celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week, the children in Dosbarth 1 and 2 have ‘Dressed to Express’ by coming to school as what they would like to be when they are older. We have had an excellent day filled with fun activities to find out more about our friends and talk about how we are similar and different. We worked in groups to learn a new dance, complete some team games outside, create a puzzle piece all about ourselves and play connect bingo. What a brilliant way to end our week!
Class 1 were very lucky to have a visit from PC Viv this morning. We learnt all about how to keep ourselves safe at home, and what we can do if we are ever feeling unsafe. We listened to a story which helped us to think about how we can stay away from danger and protect ourselves in different situations. We also learnt about the different adults that can help us and how we can talk to them. Diolch PC Viv!
